SEWNAR - pronounced ‘sonar’, an acronym for “Sewing, New and Repurposed”. The brand perfectly encompasses the word functionality. Inspired by “Militaria”, Arlo unpacks the method and knowledge to understand the visual aesthetics and philosophy of the design. Life rafts, tents, billboards and boat sails are the designer’s favourite materials to work with. He cleverly stretches out these materials’ lifespan by turning them into something new. Functional before and still functional now. Reusing, repurposing and being resourceful are the brand’s ethos which goes hand in hand with being sustainable. His current design process includes making informed decisions and being environmentally conscious. Started the brand in 2020, Arlo still continually experiments with different materials and techniques to deeper understand the fashion to keep innovating.
